What is the Flying Karlis Mentorship?

Flying Karlis Mentorship is a structured, ongoing coaching relationship with Kārlis Jaunpetrovičs — LPF P581 SIV Instructor, 9× consecutive Latvian National Paragliding Champion (2017–2025), former BGD test pilot. The goal is to get you to a place where you don't need him anymore. It includes video calls, video analytics, structured training plans and email follow-up, tailored to where you are right now.

Who is the mentorship for?

The mentorship is open to anyone who wants to progress in paragliding — whether you have 50 hours or 5,000. The structure and topics adapt to where you are right now. The sooner you build a structured progression path, the safer and more rewarding your flying becomes.

What topics can we cover in a mentorship session?

Any paragliding topic: ground handling, take-offs, landings, thermalling, cross-country flying, SIV maneuvers, acro, wing control, air-mass reading, mental game, goal setting and progression planning. You fill out a form before each call so the session is prepared for your specific questions.

How does video analytics work in the mentorship?

You record your flying — ground handling, take-offs, landings, in-flight, or dynamic maneuvers — and send the footage. Kārlis reviews it in detail and sends back specific, actionable feedback on what to work on.

How do I start the mentorship?

I remember when I started flying, right after I finish my initial training I realized, that it is quite hard to keep on progressing without anyone to ask for an advice. Paragliding can be hard and discouraging on your own. I have always looked out for mentors to progress in my flying. I can’t imagine a better way to progress. Without the mentors along the way I wouldn’t be half the pilot I am to day.

This is why I thought of offering mentorship to pilots that are eager to progress in the safest way possible. I want to offer this to anyone who is willing to learn and progress.

Paragliding is a lifetime of learning and progressing. It is a massive undertaking. We need to structure our training to be able to progress safely. Not only that, it is also easy to get demotivated in-front of such a large challenge. This is why it is important to have a step by step plan, with smaller and bigger goals.

I always say that paragliding is 95% mind game. When we start flying it is all about physical control of the wing, it takes about 100% of or mental energy. The goal is to go from being worried about the wing to not to think about the wing. So we can free up our mind to be able to observe the surrounding air-mass and all the clues that help us fly longer, further and safer. There’s lots to learn.
